Why Family Sessions // Ezra & Daddy

Ezra is at such a neat stage of life. Yes, his clothes are all a little too tight or a little too big, but he’s starting to prefer standing over sitting. He loves his daddy’s beard and being thrown high into the sky. He’s obsessed with nature and the breeze is calming to him, which is a desire for him that his mama has prayed for since he was in my womb.

I had scheduled some time for a Daddy & Ezra session about a week before the session, but finding a decent time for an unpredictable 5-month-old can be less than ideal. We were tired after a long day of church, family, and household chores. Ben didn’t necessarily feel like putting on a nice shirt. I didn’t necessarily feel like dressing a cranky baby into overalls. It would have been easy to put it off and push back the session again and again until maybe it was non-existent.

Boy, am I so happy we said “YES! We’re doing this!”. I can see Ben and I looking back on these portraits on each of Ezra’s birthdays, thinking about how cheeky his little smile was. When we’re 90 years old, we’ll soak in Ben’s youth and handsome looks as we’re packing on the wrinkles. You can’t pay for time to standstill (Oh, how I wish that were the case with our bubba!). However, we can capture every stage as a family and commit to always reminiscing. Always remembering. Always thanking Jesus for the blessing He’s given us in each other.

Yes, it can be inconvenient. Yes, it can be tough to gather the littles to take portraits. Yes, it’s always easier to say “no no no” instead of “YES!”, but sometimes you need to make the leap. Your littles will thank you when they’re flipping through their photo albums each birthday (or rather their instagram feed ;).
